Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics

Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics

There are two texts that have greatly supported me in my life to find balance and live a virtuous life. One is the Bhagavad Gita and the other is Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics. According to Aristotle, our focus should be on being a good person. This idea appealed to the way I myself perceive morality and life.

Aristotle says the right actions will follow effortlessly and that there is no need for a rule book. According to Aristotle, a virtuous person lives at a midpoint between two extremes. This midpoint is the point between extreme deficit and extreme surplus, the so-called “golden mean”.

During this course we will dive into what that means as well as the different virtues that Aristotle discusses. We’ll also examine Aristotle’s “moral exemplars”. By the end of this course, you will have more tools to create more balance for yourself and to live a virtuous life.
